Thompson Pump in Expansion Mode, Plots New-and-Improved Global Headquarters in 2018
Thompson Pump & Manufacturing Co. plans to expand its current headquarters in Port Orange, home base since 1970.
The company’s new 100,000 square foot facility, will be located across town at 5301 South Williamson Blvd. in Port Orange, north of Port Orange Pavilion.
Thompson Pump purchased 15 acres of city-owned land along Williamson Boulevard on March 2nd, 2017, where the company plans to build its larger plant.
With its business on the upswing and property values starting to climb, the family-owned company thinks now might be a good time to expand. The new complex will be large enough to accommodate the company’s continued growth. Construction of the new facility is expected to commence in 2018. The current location at 4620 City Center Drive contains a nine-building 100,000-square-foot plant.
Thompson Pump assists customers worldwide with pump rentals, sales, service, repair, design, installation and operational support. The company’s Port Orange facility includes all its rental and repair operations. The new site, now under the design phase, will provide space for their manufacturing operation which will include the fabrication of frames, the assembly of pump products, painting and testing. There will also be training classes and an area for pump demonstrations. In addition to manufacturing, the new facility will include office space, which will allow Thompson Pump to grow their business and ultimately, create many new jobs.
The new headquarters was confirmed by Bill Thompson, Thompson Pump Chairman, who said the move would allow the company the space needed to expand its manufacturing and development opportunities. “This move has been a goal of ours since the early 2000s, before the recession,” Thompson said. “Now that we are seeing the economy rebound, and particularly, the construction and infrastructure spending that is starting to happen across the country, we have the confidence to move forward on this ambitious project.”
The 47 -year-old pump manufacturer, with 335 employees in the US, is one of the fastest – growing pump companies in the country. The company currently employs approximately 140 people in the Port Orange and neighboring communities.
“Port Orange has been our home since the beginning, in 1970,” added Thompson. “We have enjoyed an extremely positive working relationship with everyone at the City. We are very fortunate that these leaders in the City of Port Orange are forward thinkers, and have created a community where a company like Thompson Pump can thrive.”
Thompson Pump manufactures around 1,500 dewatering and bypass engine-powered pumps a year. The pumps are used throughout the world, including Canada, Mexico, Poland, Egypt, Panama, Africa, Australia and South America.
While there will be big changes for the Thompson Pump team, the expansion will be transparent to customers. All mission-critical and customer-facing functions will operate seamlessly without interruption throughout the move.
When the property is fully developed, Thompson Pump’s new addition will be neighbors with Raydon Corp. and US Foods and will add to the industrial stretch of Williamson Boulevard, just south of Hockney Court and north of the retail hub at The Pavilion at Port Orange.
