Thompson Pump Supports Haiti Relief Efforts

THOMPSON PUMP SUPPORTS HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS

PORT ORANGE, FL- Thompson Pump & Manufacturing Co., Inc., a full-service manufacturer and provider of pumps, pumping equipment and engineering expertise, is aiding disaster relief efforts in Haiti with company-wide monetary donations and supplies.

Pumps are being made available to the U.S. government and its aid agencies, which are aiding in the relief effort on the Caribbean island.

Donations have been critical in helping the victims of this devastating earthquake disaster and future support will be essential to rebuild the basic infrastructure and housing that was destroyed.

The contribution to the aid effort follows a series of other Thompson Pump donations in recent years to other parts of the world hit by natural disasters, including the 2005 hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast of the United States, when over 50 pumps and a team of responders were sent from the company’s headquarters in Port Orange, FL.

“Thompson Pump joins the world in prayer for those affected by the devastation in Haiti,” says Bill Thompson, president, Thompson Pump. “We are saddened by the significant devastation to individuals, residences, businesses and entire communities.”

The Thompson Pump Emergency Response Team

Thompson Pump & Manufacturing Co. Inc. mobilizes their Emergency Response Team (ERT) to provide pumping equipment, supplies and manpower to areas devastated by disasters.  Thompson Pump is a 40-year veteran in disaster relief having facilitated cleanup efforts with the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the World Trade Center collapse, several flooded areas in the Midwest and hurricane damaged areas in the Southeast.

Just this year the ERT has called on all 20 company-wide branch locations and several distributors and dealers to provide pumps, equipment, and manpower. Their dedication to emergency response is one of the reasons Thompson Pump has locations along the Gulf and Florida coasts of the United States.

“Our Emergency Response Team knows they are on call 24/7 until a crisis is under control,” says Bill Thompson, president, Thompson Pump. “We evaluate all avenues where we can assist in disaster relief efforts, and we are committed to utilizing our equipment and experience to help anyone in need.”

When responding to disaster, Thompson Pump first concentrates on areas where people’s lives may be in jeopardy; then, their team supports the property protection and recovery stage; all along, aiding in getting hospitals, wastewater treatment plants, water plants, power generation facilities and industrial operations, such as refineries, operational. All of these efforts to mobilize equipment and manpower, while continuing to service existing customers, require intense communication.

Suction/discharge hose and pipe are sent with each to allow for quick setup so the pumps can begin working immediately. Along with the set up of pumps and equipment, continuous fueling of pumps and proper working order conditions are provided with steady pump watch duties.

In addition to their expertise provided, Thompson Pump employees support the American Red Cross and local blood banks on a regular basis to aid during these unexpected times.
